Veteran Police Officer, Product of Fort Lee School System Honored by Chief

Police Officer Patrick Kellett, a 22-year veteran of the Fort Lee Police Department, is the "Chief's Award" recipient for June, police announced. A Brooklyn native, Kellett moved to Fort Lee in 1977, attending local public schools through high school.

Police Officer Patrick Kellett, a 22-year veteran of the Fort Lee Police Department, has been chosen as the Chief’s Award recipient for the month of June. 

Fort Lee Police Chief Thomas O. Ripoli created this award as a way to recognize officers for their outstanding contributions to the Fort Lee Police Department.

Officer Kellett moved to Fort Lee from Brooklyn, New York in 1977. He attended School No. 2, Lewis F. Cole Middle School and Fort Lee High School. He joined the Fort Lee Police Department on Jan. 1, 1990. Since then, he has worked on every shift in the Patrol Division and worked briefly in the Narcotics Division in 2001. 

Officer Kellett is a member of the Fort Lee Police Department’s Arson squad. He has successfully completed the New Jersey Division of Criminal Justice Arson Investigator’s Group. Officer Kellett has also been a volunteer firefighter since 1985 and has been serving as the Assistant Chief for the past four years.

During Officer Kellett’s 22-year career with the Fort Lee Police Department, he has earned numerous awards for valor, meritorious service and life saving. He has also earned two awards for valor from the 200 Club of Bergen County. 

Officer Kellett has two daughters: Sarah, 18, and Valerie, 14. He would like to thank his parents, the late Vito Piemonte and Annette Piemonte for all of their support through the years. He would also like to thank Chief Ripoli for this honor and for the privilege of working alongside him and then serving under his command as chief.
