Two Men Charged In Connection With Pair of Home Burglaries

Burglars allegedly hit two residences on Riverdale Drive in Fort Lee Thursday night, making off with "numerous pieces of jewelry," police said.

Fort Lee police arrested two men Thursday night in connection with two residential burglaries on Riverdale Drive, after a woman found one of the alleged burglars still in her home before he ran away, police said.

“The owner of the residence came home and confronted a male that was in her residence,” said Fort Lee Police Chief Thomas Ripoli. “The male ran out through the front door westbound on Riverdale Drive carrying a bag.”

Police officer Dennis Pathos caught up with two men fitting the description provided by the homeowner walking near 1541 Lemoine Ave. after a brief search of the area, according to police.

The two men had “numerous pieces of jewelry” in their possession, Ripoli said, adding that police believe the loot was taken from at least two homes on Riverdale Drive Thursday night.

Police arrested brothers Kahn Carter, 39, of Garfield, and Kali Carter, 37, of Paterson, charging both with two counts each of burglary of a residence and two counts each of theft by unlawful taking. Kahn Carter was additionally charged with possession of a weapon—a gravity knife, according to police.

Bail was set at $30,000 for both suspects with an option to post 10 percent.

Ripoli, who declined to provide specific addresses on Riverdale Drive, said the investigation into whether the pair were involved in other burglaries is continuing.
