Red Bulls Player Charged With Assaulting Fort Lee Police Officer

A defender for the New York Red Bulls was charged with assaulting a police officer in Fort Lee early Saturday morning after police responded to a noise complaint at a 15th Street apartment, authorities said.

Fort Lee police officers arrived at the at 5:30 a.m. Saturday to find loud music coming from one of the apartments, authorities said. After opening the door, the officers were met by Fhanor Dominguez-Sanchez, the owner of the apartment, and Wilman Conde, a 29-year-old who spent years in the Colombian leagues and with the Chicago Fire of the MLS before signing with the Red Bulls in January, according to police.

Conde has been limited to two matches with the Red Bulls this season because of a groin injury.

Dominguez-Sanchez and Conde were both “intoxicated and belligerent to the responding officers,” police said.

As one officer was trying to identify a female guest, Conde allegedly “became loud and got in the way of the officer and began to push him,” police said.

Det. Sgt. Kenneth Porrino of the told Patch the responding police officers were Dave Kurz and Pete Lacovara, and that it was Lacovara whom Conde allegedly assaulted.

Conde was charged with aggravated assault on a police officer and released on his own recognizance pending a court date, police said.

Red Bulls' director of communications Brian Tsao issued a statement Saturday regarding the incident, saying, "We are aware of the situation and are in the process of gathering information. We have no further comment on this time."

Dominguez-Sanchez was also issued a summons for allegedly violating borough ordinance for excessive noise, according to Fort Lee police.
