Police Officer Killed in Route 17 Accident

Southbound right and center lanes remained closed early Thursday morning.

A Bergen County police officer working radar was killed early Thursday morning when his vehicle was struck by a tractor trailer in Waldwick on Route 17 southbound.

The incident, which occurred at about 1:30 a.m., remains under investigation, Bergen County Prosecutor John Molinelli said.

The southbound right and center lanes remained closed as of 6 a.m. Thursday for the accident investigation.

The Waldwick Township Police Officer was identified as Christopher Goodell, 32, a five-year veteran and former Marine, according to NorthJersey.com.

Goodell, a Waldwick High School grad, was in an unmarked car parked on the Route 17 shoulder near Bergen Avenue when the accident happened, NorthJersey.com reported.

The tractor trailer driver was not charged as of early Thursday morning.

Phil, it's all speculation at this point by all of us until there is a full investigation. At the end of the day it's all a terrible accident and someone lost their life because of it.

Linda, So why speculate in an almost accusatory tone?

Uncle Jay, If you read my post, you would have noticed it was addressed to both you as well as Linda. I'd like to think that you would have known what part was directed to you and what was directed to Linda. You made no assertions. You were just too damned lazy to find out where Bergen Ave. and Rt. 17 were while adding your incredulous question marks. So, I'll grow up just as soon as you get off your fat ass and do a Google Maps search which would have taken you maybe ten seconds. Actually, the amazing part is that you didn't even have to get off your fat ass to do that. And you still couldn't do it.
