Pharmacy Technician Charged in Oxycodone Scheme

A Fort Lee resident and employee at in Teaneck was charged with fraudulently obtaining more than 30,000 Oxycodone pills with an estimated street value of more than $1 million, police said.

Teaneck police were contacted July 22 after a manager at Alvin’s noticed a suspicious prescription for Oxycodone and found that pharmacy technician Gina Moreno of Fort Lee had paid for the prescription in cash, Chief Robert Wilson said in a statement.

Additional research found that Moreno made more than one hundred similar transactions, netting at least 36,000 Oxycodone pills, according to police.

Authorities believe Moreno, 29, made out the prescriptions using fake names and was reselling the painkillers, said Detective Lt. Andrew McGurr.

She faces charges including possession with intent to distribute, 120 counts of receiving stolen property, forgery and obtaining a controlled dangerous substance by fraud, police said.

Nancy E. Lucianna, an attorney representing Moreno, said her client denies any involvement in the alleged scheme. 

"She's a hard working single mother and she has no involvement in this whatsoever," Lucianna said. "She's been a very good employee at Alvin's for many years."

Moreno was booked on Thursday and has since been released on bail ahead of a Municipal Court appearance Wednesday morning.
