Man Charged After Fort Lee Police, Employees Stop Liquor Store Robbery

Employees at Linwood Wine and Liquor in Fort Lee struggled Thursday to stop the would be robber, who police say tried to make off with several bottles of alcohol valued at about $300.

A Manhattan man was charged Thursday in connection with an alleged attempt to steal several bottles of booze from a Fort Lee liquor store, authorities said.

At about 1 p.m. Thursday afternoon, Fort Lee police responded to a call of a shoplifting in progress at Linwood Wine and Liquor in Linwood Plaza.

Store employees told police they saw Alan Mabra, 51, allegedly put “numerous bottles of liquor” in a bag and then try to leave the store, according to police.

Two employees attempted to stop Mabra at the door on his way out. Mabra then allegedly tried to push his way past them as they struggled to stop him, according to police.

Fort Lee police officers arrived in time to arrest Mabra and have the roughly $300 worth of liquor returned to the store.

Police subsequently charged Mabra with robbery, and “due to his extensive criminal history,” bail was set at $25,000, police said.

Mabra is currently being held at the Bergen County Jail.
