An unknown man in a dark blue sedan attempted to lure a 10-year-old girl at Inwood Terrace Park on Monday by asking her to get into the vehicle and help him look for his dog, Detective Sergeant Ken Porrino said.
The incident occured on Monday Oct 22, around 6 p.m., but was reported by the girl to Fort Lee police on Friday, Porrino said.
The 10-year-old was playing with her friends and momentarily walked away from her friends while in the park. While walking to toward the Juanita Place section of the park, a man in a dark blue sedan rolled down his window and asked the girl to get inside, Porrino said.
The man was described as white and tan, in his 30s or 40s with dark brown hair and eyes, Porrino said. He also had a five o'clock shadow and a mole on the left side of his forehead, Porrino said.
This case is different from the other reported luring cases, Porrino said, because the man allegedly enticed the girl to get in the car.
Porrino said that this case has "substance" to it.
"The fact that he actually asked her to get into the car and help him look for his dog is more of a luring attempt than what I have seen," Porrino said.
The description of the man also doesn't fit any of the other recent luring reports.
"I have done quite a few sketches in regards of the luring," Porrino said. "He does not fit any descriptions that we have had."
Porrino said that if any child finds him or herself in a similar situation, they should try to take a picture with their cell phone.
"Try and snap a quick picture," Porrino said. "That may help us out a lot."
The case remains under investigation by Fort Lee Police.
