Keep a full tank of gas in your car. If told to evacuate, do so immediately and turn off gas, water and electricity and unplug small appliances.

Number four

Get an emergency evacuation kit ready. Items include a first aid kit; bottled water; a two-week supply of medicine; blankets or sleeping bags; extra clothing; ID, carrier, food and medication for pets, important personal items; toys for children; snacks; important documents, such as your own identification, insurance information and cash.

Number five

Let your family or friends outside the area know what your evacuation plans are. Help neighbors who may be in need of special assistance like babies, senior citizens and people with disabilities.
