Fort Lee Police Find Stolen Vehicles, Loaded Gun at Hotel, Charge Four

Police allege the men had two stolen cars, a loaded handgun and $31,000 when they were arrested in the parking lot of the Holiday Inn in Fort Lee Wednesday night.

Four men were charged Wednesday after police found them in a Fort Lee hotel parking lot allegedly in possession of two stolen cars, a loaded handgun and more than $30,000 in cash, authorities said.

Fort Lee police Det. Cory Horton was patrolling the area, when he noticed the four “acting suspiciously near four parked vehicles” at about 8 p.m. in the parking lot of the Holiday Inn on Route 4 East in Fort Lee, police said.

An on-scene investigation revealed that two of the vehicles had allegedly been stolen. A K-9 search of the vehicles also turned up a fully loaded Taurus .9mm handgun in the glove compartment of one of the cars and about $31,000 in cash in another, police said.

Warren Green, 35, of Queens and Dwayne Box, 27, of Brooklyn were charged with receiving stolen property and possession of a handgun. Michael Payne, 27, of Fairhope, Alabama and Daneian Brown, 36, of Loganville, Georgia were charged with receiving stolen property and money laundering, according to police.

The money laundering charges were “due to the fact of the large amount of cash and investigation conducted regarding the money,” said Detective Sergeant Ken Porrino of the Fort Lee Police Department.
