Fort Lee Police Basketball Team Plays for Tomorrows Children

Lt. Thomas Ottina organizes the annual fundraiser; Fort Lee participated for the 13th year.

The basketball team played the Union City Police basketball team Wednesday at Fairleigh Dickinson University’s Rothman Center in Hackensack. The game was a part of the 13th annual Battle of the Blue Basket Ball Tournament, in which 16 police basketball teams from across Northern New Jersey participated to raise money for Hackensack University Medical Center's Tomorrows Children Fund.

The Fort Lee team started off slowly, with the Union City team taking an early lead, which they never relinquished. It was Fort Lee's 13th year in the tournament and Union City's first year participating. But that didn't stop the rookie Union City team from defeating Fort Lee by a score of 27-23.

Lt. Thomas Ottina of the Fort Lee Police Department has been organizing the annual event for the past 13 years. In past years the event has raised as much $200,000, police said.
