Fort Lee Man Killed Crossing Route 4 in Paramus

No charges filed against the driver.

A Fort Lee man was struck and killed while attempting to cross Route 4 east in Paramus on Tuesday night, Paramus police said Wednesday.

The victim, identified as William Platt, 63, was pronounced dead at Hackensack University Medical Center on Tuesday night, said Chief Kenneth Ehrenberg.

It appeared he had been attempting to cross Route 4 eastbound around 9:18 p.m. Tuesday when he was struck in the center lane by a 2008 Jeep Patriot, the chief said.

No charges have been filed against the driver of the Jeep, said Ehrenberg. The investigation remains still ongoing.

Route 4 east was shut down for more than an hour Tuesday night as police investigated the accident.
