Fort Lee Firefighter Charged in Death of Infant Son

Michael Marrara Jr. facing charges of aggravated manslaughter relating to the death of his 10-week-old son in March of 2012.

The father of a 10-week-old infant family members claimed died from sudden infant death syndrome was charged with aggravated manslaughter Tuesday, Prosecutor John L. Molinelli confirmed.

Michael Marrara Jr., 32, formerly of Fort Lee, was also charged Tuesday with hindering apprehension and endangering the welfare of a child related to the death of his son, Andrew Jeremy Marrara.

Molinelli did not provide further details of the investigation Tuesday night.

Marrara, a volunteer firefighter in Fort Lee, posted $250,000 bail Tuesday, according to jail records.

Family members have in the past claimed the child died of sudden infant death syndrome.

"A year ago today you were born and we were blessed for ten beautiful weeks,"family members wrote on Jan. 13, in memoriam of Andrew. "Then SIDS took you from us. Happy 1st Birthday in Heaven, little man. We love and miss you every day."

Marrara has been suspended from his firefighter duties.

"Because of the charges, according to the fire department's policy, Marrara was suspended from the Fort Lee Fire Department until the disposition of his court case," Fort Lee Fire Chief Mark Sulcov said.
