Fort Lee Fire Department To Christen New Fire Engine

Fort Lee Ladder Co. #3 gets ready for June wetdown of new 2000 gallon pumper at Constitution Park; everyone's invited.

There's a tradition among volunteer fire departments whenever a company gets a new firetruck. This tradition is called a "wetdown"--firefighters from area towns drive their engines into town to ritualistically douse, or christen, the new firetruck by spraying it with water from the hoses of their engines. Essentially, it's a gigantic water fight where other fire departments bring their trucks and "wet down" the new truck, along with anyone who happens to be in the line of fire.

On Saturday, June 23 Fort Lee Ladder Company #3 is hosting a wetdown for their new 2011 Sutphen 2000 gallon pumper at Constitution Park and invites the public to attend.

There will be inflatable bouncers for kids, live music by the David Christopher Band, food, drinks, and a pig roast. There will also be fire department tee-shirts and mugs for sale, as well.
