Mom Charged with DWI After Crashing into Barrier with Kids in Car

Mother charged with DWI and two counts of endangering the welfare of a child after her car crashes into a barrier on I-95, according to cops.

A New York mom driving with her two children while impaired crashed into a barrier on I-95 Friday, according to Fort Lee Police.

Cops allege that Alisha Leon, of Highland Falls, was traveling south on Route 95 from the lower level of the George Washington Bridge heading towards Route 4 West in Fort Lee when she crashed her Nissan Altima into a barrier.

Her two children, ages 3 years and 5 months, were in the vehicle but did not suffer any injuries, police said. Leon suffered non-life threatening injuries and was transported to the hospital, they said.

Showing signs of being under the influence of a controlled dangerous substance, toxicology tests were also ordered, police said.   

After being released from the hospital, Leon was charged with DWI and two counts of endangering the welfare of a child. She was transported to the Fort Lee Police Department where she was arraigned, police said. Judge John De Sheplo set bail at $50,000. Leon was transported to the Bergen County Jail in lieu of bail.

According to police, the Division of Child Protection and Permanency were notified and the children were released to a family member.
