Connecticut Trucker Accused of Using Stolen License Plate to Skip GWB Toll

License plate reportedly stolen during Hurricane Sandy

Port Authority police charged a Connecticut truck driver with using a license plate stolen during Hurricane Sandy to skip the George Washington Bridge toll, the agency said Saturday.

Yuriy Ganzman, owner of Ganzman Trucking, LLC of Farmington, Conn., was stopped by Port Authority Police Officer Jason Malice around 4:15 p.m. Friday for not having a proper emissions sticker, according to police spokesman Joseph Pentangelo. Officers also found the truck had a stolen plate on the cab.

“The truck's actual license plate was found secreted inside the vehicle, thus avoiding the toll,” Pentangelo said. “The suspect made statements indicating he knew the plate was not his.”

A New Jersey-based marine company reported the license plate stolen Aug. 20 and the company said the plate was believed to have been taken during Hurricane Sandy, the spokesman added.

The marine company was receiving EZ-Pass violations since the summer, police said.

Ganzman, 43, of Avon, Conn., was charged with theft of services, theft and possession of stolen property, and later released.
