Colorado Truck Driver Charged With Toll Evasion at GWB

A Colorado truck driver was charged Saturday in connection with allegedly trying to evade tolls at the George Washington Bridge, officials said.

The arrest was the third of its type within a 10-day period, after a Florida truck driver was charged on Oct. 10 and a Pennsylvania driver was charged Oct. 15, and the 67th such arrest this year, according to Port Authority officials.

Port Authority Police Officer Michael Brennan was on patrol at the bridge’s upper level toll plaza at about 4:30 p.m. Saturday when he saw a 2013 Volvo tractor-trailer with no front license plate go through a toll lane, a Port Authority spokesman said.

“[The driver had] a plastic sign on the rear of the trailer where a license plate should be located,” said Port Authority spokesman Steve Coleman. “The sign said ‘new trailer in transit.’”

Artur Drobniak, 39, of Thornton, Colorado was charged with theft of service for allegedly evading the toll, tampering with government records for allegedly installing the sign where a license plate should have been and failure to display license plates.
