Car Drives Into Hotel Room, Cop Kicked in the Groin

Prom night could have gone a little more smoothly.

There are easier ways to get into a woman's hotel room.

From : "Toms River Police are investigating how or why a car entered the Holiday Inn at 290 Route 37 early Sunday morning." (We're guessing pressure to the gas pedal had something to do with it.)

Police said a 19-year-old staying at the hotel after a prom was sitting in a parked 1999 Mercedes Benz, then crashed it through a window into a room where a 77-year-old woman was sleeping. The woman was trapped between the car and a wall for 20 minutes, until fire department members could rescue her, police said.

The teen allegedly tried to leave, and was ultimately charged with driving under the influence and leaving the scene of an accident, according to police.

The hotel's occupant had apparently been in town to attend a wedding. Gives a whole new meaning to "wedding crashers."

Each Monday, Patch takes a peek at some of the more surprising, shocking, stunning and occasionally silly police-related incidents reported throughout New Jersey for "OMGs from NJ PDs." Some of the other reports:

OK, We're Considering Changing the Name of the Category: Usually, when someone's a bit too aggressiveve with the cops, we put it in the "You Don't Tug on Superman's Cape" category. But some incidents really define the genre. Hopatcong police said a Rockaway woman had apparently followed a man to the police station, as he tried to file a report about how she allegedly threw her cell phone at his car. When officers came outside to ask the woman to calm down, police said ... . She allegedly kicked an officer in the stomach and groin at least three times. It didn't end well for the Rockaway woman—she faces several charges, including some for alleged marijuana possession.

Appetite for Destruction: Cinnaminson police say a Mt. Holly man didn't respond well when a ShopRite's loss prevention team tried to stop him for allegedly shoplifting. Not only did he begin to fight them, police said, . After store employees successfully got him to the ground, officers arrived and took over, and found warrants out for his arrest, police said. It's pretty outlandish behavior, but maybe he was just hungry. He was at a grocery store after all.

Left a Calling Card: You know, it's not always easy for police to track someone down in a hit-and-run incident. Unless someone got a good look at the offending car, or an image was somehow captured on camera, there's often little officers can do. But Haddonfield police say a West Deptford man made their job a little easier, after his car careened into Wheeler Park and he sped away late at night. . He ultimately faced a DWI charge.
