Fort Lee Man Killed in Head-on Collision

Fort Lee police say Jong Park, 84, was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident.

A borough man was killed in a head-on collision Monday morning when the vehicle he was traveling in headed down a one-way street in the wrong direction, Fort Lee police said.

According to Fort Lee Police Chief Keith Bendul, the Hyundai Sonata driven by 71-year-old Jennifer Park traveled in the wrong direction on a stretch of Inwood Terrace, striking a BMW X5 head-on at around 8:30 a.m. Park's passenger, 84-year-old Jong Park, sustained head injuries in the accident. He was rushed to Hackensack University Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead 40 minutes later.

Jong Park was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident, Bendul said. The accident came three weeks after borough police completed its annual "Click it or Ticket" safety initiative.
