GWB traffic problems? SINCE WHEN?

The Bridge is strong, and symbolic - and that's why "Bridgegate" is a scandal and irritation to residents of Fort Lee.

I could never imagine living anywhere else, although
The Bridge is a mixed blessing for Fort Lee residents - bringing us to jobs and entertainment. 

I also can not imagine a government offical sending and not deleting an e-mail message: "time for traffic problems on the George Washington Bridge," and FOUR SOLID DAYS of DELIBERATE delays.

Even decades ago I learned that dear grey Bridge was a mixed blessing, when traffic was jammed past Hoym Street along Lemoine as far as Whiteman Street,very frequently - yes - even in those old days!  I left earlier and earlier in order to get to work in NYC on time.

My solution: Skip breakfast. Turn back on Hoym, have a quick breakfast at home.  By the time breakfast was over, in those olden days, the traffic usually subsided within that 20 or 30 minutes - I would walk to the Bridge, catch a bus and be on my way! (On non-traffic days I'd pick up breakfast at a coffee shop near my office).

Traffic was worse on summer weekends, with visitors to Palisades Amusement Park clogging the roads from the Bridge to the Park - and River Road to Rt. 5 to the Park.

The price of land is credited with the selling of the Park and its replacement by high-rise apartments - but I always think most Fort Lee residents who regret the loss of the Park, were the same ones who were delighted  to be able to get out of their driveways, much less cross the GWB on a weekend.

But these problems relating to the Bridge were "natural" - "organic" - "cause and effect"  - or JUST TRAFFIC - broken down car, fender-bender, flooding on the Cross Bronx Expressway.

We local people - and commuters from all over who were VICTIMS of a prank or political strategy - and need to support any effort to expose the travesty.
