Rick Santorum: "The Gates of Hell" Candidacy

We all know that Rick Santorum could not win a seat on the Fort Lee Borough Council because Fort Lee citizens only vote Democratic, pretty much not caring if the candidate can do the job or even has the qualifications to do the job. In Fort Lee, if Kay Nest supports your candidacy, you are in.

In our national election, Republicans actually should have an excellent chance.  President Obama has done everything humanly possible to not get reelected, from being a one-man wrecking crew; to our national economic infrastructure; to bumbling through wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. He even recently apologized to Pres. Karzai of Afghanistan publically for the recent burning of Qur’ans by our soldiers, apologizing after two of our soldiers were killed during an Afghan protest. (It might be worth remembering that we virtually placed Karzai in the presidency during the process of removing the Taliban. Also, recent reports indicated that the burned Qur’ans had inflammatory writing in them, and thus were already desecrated.) At this point, a well-mannered pit bull should be able to defeat Obama.

But then along comes Rick Santorum.

Instead of attacking the obvious, i.e. the lack of positive accomplishments in the last four years, Rick proceeds to describe Obama’s agenda as “about some phony ideal, some phony theology,” degrading his own argument into a personal attack. He expands on his personal philosophy, likening public schools to “factories.”

Note: his children are primarily home-schooled; I guess he believes that would work for the entire population of the U.S.

Santorum next addresses the Catholic Universities contraceptive controversy with (1) his criticism describing “prenatal testing as a way of culling the ranks of the disabled,” and (2) his belief that free contraceptives encourage random sex by young people. We must all abide by the 15th century Catholic Church teachings of abstinence; that is the only way. Apparently, Rick obviously never suffered through the teenage period of “raging hormones,” having apparently slept through his high school biology and health classes.

Finally, the coup de grace from the McCain / Obama campaigns in 2008, Santorum’s comments resurfaced recently on the Drudge Report:

Satan has his sights on the United States of America!"

"Satan is attacking the great institutions of America, using those great vices of pride, vanity, and sensuality as the root to attack all of the strong plants that has so deeply rooted in the American tradition."

"This is a spiritual war. And the Father of Lies has his sights on what you would think the Father of Lies would have his sights on: a good, decent, powerful, influential country - the United States of America. If you were Satan, who would you attack in this day and age? There is no one else to go after other than the United States and that has been the case now for almost 200 years, once America’s preeminence was sown by our great Founding Fathers.”

Sarah Palin defended him on Fox News, stating that he was simply quoting from Catholic Sunday School teachings. Is Sarah Palin the person you really want to defend you when you have been declared irrelevant. (Or was it really Tina Fey?)

I envy President Obama’s campaign manager, Jim Messina, if Rick Santorum is nominated by the Republican Party caucus. He would only have to advise Barack to not say a word during the campaign, to relax and to not work so hard at fundraising. Rick Santorum is doing all his work for him.
