Referendum 2012 -Please Vote

On Tuesday, January 24, 2012, is the vote for the Referendum regarding the Fort Lee Schools. Fort Lee is at a crossroads. The community will make a decision to either promote a future for Fort Lee children or to say, “We Don’t Care.”

It’s not about taxes or money, although the antis would use that argument. It’s not about a dysfunctional BOE, although they may be rightly criticized for their performance. It is about the children, about a community providing quality education, setting a standard to encourage families to move to Fort Lee for the right reasons.

The one positive above and beyond the referendum issue on its own merit is the $10 million grant from the State of New Jersey to supplement the $30 million referendum. We desperately need these additional funds to make the necessary repairs to the infrastructure and major equipment replacement in our deteriorating buildings.

The picture on the right displays a teaching trailer. This is the potential result of a community that fails to repair its schools and to address overcrowding. Is this the future of Fort Lee? We will know on Tuesday, when the parents of Fort Lee decide if it is worth the effort to take five minutes of their valuable time to go to the polls to ensure their children’s future!
