Fort Lee Ranked 26th on New Jersey Safest City List

Mahwah, Dumont, Ridgewood, Wyckoff and New Milford ranked at the top of public safety in Bergen County, according to a study published Monday.

The folks at one home security company have placed Fort Lee smack dab in the center of a list of the New Jersey's 50 safest communities.

Mahwah, Sparta and Warren top the list, which pairs data from the FBI’s 2011 Crime in the U.S. Report with a "comprehensive investigation" from SafeWise

The borough's write up on the list mentions, of course, Fort Lee's proximity to "magical Manhattan," but also gives a welcome nod to the Fort Lee Office of Cultural and Heritage Affairs, the town's rec department and Fort Lee Film Commission.

"As the birthplace of the film industry, movies are a major draw in Fort Lee, and pull families from a variety of ethnicities together," according to the blog post. "Revolutionary reenactments and the Tour de Fort Lee bicycling race are other annual popular events."

Mahwah, Dumont and Ridgewood were ranked among the safest towns in Bergen County, according to a study published Monday.
