Welcome to Coytesville, N.J. Home of the Barrymores: A Salute to the Northern Section of Fort Lee and its Famous Acting Family

The Fort Lee Historical Society presents
its new exhibit on the famous Barrymore acting family and the Fort Lee
neighborhood they lived in, Coytesville.  This Fort Lee Museum exhibit
will highlight  Coytesville resident Maurice Barrymore who lived in a
Victorian home on Hammett Avenue in the late 19th into the early 20th Century.
While being America's premiere stage actor Maurice also was an active
member of the community and a volunteer fireman with the fire department in
Coytesville.  His son John lived with him for one year when John was 18 in
1900.  Here in Fort Lee John made his stage debut directed by Maurice in a
benefit performance for the Coytesville Fire Department.  This was John
Barrymore's stage debut and it took place in Fort Lee.  This exhibit will
highlight the history of this northern section of Fort Lee called Coytesville.
 Exhibit hours are weekend’s noon to 4 p.m., Wednesday evenings 7 - 9 p.m.
and for groups by pre appointment.  For further info call the Fort Lee
Museum at (201) 592-3580 or visit www.thefortleehistoricalsociety.org.
