Fort Lee School #2 Celebrates Read Across America

Read Across America is an initiative on reading created by the National Education Association.  One part of the project is an observance in the United States held on the school day closest to March 2, which is the birthday of Dr. Seuss.  Schools across the nation choose different ways in which to honor and celebrate Dr. Seuss, and to stress the importance of reading.

At Fort Lee School # 2, guest readers from the local community were invited to read to each of our classes.  On Monday, March 3rd, 2014 we were honored to welcome the following volunteers:  Mayor Mark Sokolich, Police Chief Bendul, Deputy Chief Ford, Detective Buda, Fire Chief William Chiappane, Chief of Fort Lee Ambulance Corps Cathy Umrichin, Lewis F. Cole Middle School Principal Mr. Daniello, Assistant Superintendant Sharon Amato, Former School #2 Librarian Arlene Rifkin, and Fort Lee Public Librarian Sarah Pardi. Our Principal Mrs. Martin and our BSI Math Teacher were also part of our roster of readers.

Each of our guests shared with the students what they did for the community, how reading has helped them, and then read a story to the class.  All the readers told us that they really enjoy being part of this day and interacting with the students.  School #2 wants to extend a very big thank you to all of you for taking the time to share with us.
