The Fort Lee Board of Education finalized the financial details of Superintendent Raymond Bandlow’s retirement during a well-attended public meeting Monday.

BOE president Arthur Levine also announced that the board would not initially hire a permanent replacement for Bandlow, who will leave the district Oct. 31. (Full Story)

The borough's governing body may refinance a portion of its debt. Council President Armand Pohan announced the possibility Thursday. Pohan led the meeting for Mayor Mark Sokolich, who was absent. "As we all know, the economy the past couple of years has been in the tank," Pohan said. "In all of this bad news, you always try to find opportunity." (Full Story)

Fort Lee High School Principal Priscilla Church reported that the school had met all of the improvement benchmarks set for it by the New Jersey Department of Education at Monday's BOE meeting.

Church noted that the school's test score results were released one week before the start of school. The rise in scores is especially significant because Fort Lee High School had been classified as a Tier 2 School "In Need of Improvement." (Full Story)

Fort Lee High School's annual College Fair drew a full-capacity crowd Wednesday. The high school gym was buzzing with representatives from 119 colleges and universities, parents, and students who were seeking information from the reps about the school, the course offerings, and the social environment. “How many ten-year olds are there?” asked Principal Marianela Martin of School No. 2 to an audience of school children. 

All eyes turned and watched as one by one hands began to extend upwards. 

Principal Martin paused before adding, “When you were born, this is when it all happened.”
