Week In Review: Weinberg Honored, Film Grants, Movie Shoot

The Week in Review: a weekly roundup of local news stories on Fort Lee Patch.

Sen. Loretta Weinberg is set to receive the 2012 Alice Award at the Garden State Film Festival, the Fort Lee Film Commission announced this week. The film commission was also preparing to lead two symposiums at the annual festival in Asbury Park, one on the history of women filmmakers in New Jersey, and another led by Weinberg on how to advocate for film and TV production in the state.

Meanwhile, Justice For All Productions was on location Monday at Fort Lee's filming "Snapshot," an independent film directed by Eric Etebari and produced by Kenneth Del Vecchio, featuring Joyce DeWitt of Three's Company fame.

Rounding out a busy week for the Film Commission, the local group was also awarded two grants—a $2,000 Bergen County History Grant for the production of Mack & Mabel to be performed in May and a $5,000 New Jersey Education Association (NJEA) grant for its outreach work.

Mother, journalist, blogger and activist Estelle Sobel Erasmus of Fort Lee has been cast in the first-ever New York production of Listen to Your Mother, a show taking place at the JCC Manhattan in May in which authors, writers, bloggers and performers read their original essays about motherhood.

Husband and wife Dr. Jamie Diament-Golub, a pediatric dentist, and orthodontist Dr. Jon Golub recently returned from a trip to Cambodia, where they spent a week providing much-needed dental care to children in the largely impoverished country through KIDS International Dental Services, a nonprofit group that provides dental care to children in developing countries.

A memorial made from a piece of World Trade Center steel will adorn the new center courtyard garden at . School officials are seeking donations to help complete the project.

And in local youth sports, the sixth and seventh grade Fort Lee Girls Recreation Basketball League travel teams won championships last weekend in the Tenafly Travel League in Mahwah.
