The volunteer kickoff event is Thursday from 5:45 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Assembly Steak House located at 495 Sylvan Ave. in Englewood Cliffs.
“It’s really the official kickoff for the Ironman,” said board and executive committee member and co-chair of the Ironman committee for the Chamber of Commerce Craig Weinstein last week.
People who are interested in volunteering can simply stop by and sign up Thursday, Weinstein said.
On Tuesday, the United Republican Club of Fort Lee will celebrate a small but vocal, dedicated and tenacious group of George Washington Bridge carpoolers who recently took on the Port Authority for the right to continue picking up passengers near the upper-level tollbooths .
Last month, on the same day a newspaper report came out saying Gov. Christie told the Port Authority to end its crackdown on carpooling at the bridge, Fort Lee resident and de facto leader of the group Leonor Javier said she was eager to see how the agency responded.
Officials with the local GOP told Patch some members of the grassroots movement born in Fort Lee, including Javier, will be on hand at their monthly meeting Tuesday at 7:30 at the Fort Lee VFW at the corner of Main Street and Center Avenue.
Also Tuesday, it’s that time again for Shakespeare buffs, or just people who like to get outdoors on a summer’s eve: The Hudson Shakespeare Company returns to for the first of two performances this month of “Comedy of Errors,” their second of three plays to be performed in the park this summer.
The company has as one that takes the “absurd farce” from its traditional ancient Greek setting to 1940s-era New York with “a Looney Tunes edge.”
“The show's over-the-top and frenetic comic pace lends itself to a cartoon-like setting,” said director Michael Hagins of the show. “Chase scenes, exaggerated physical comedy and pies-in-the-face action pepper the play.”

Coming this week to the will be an exhibit dedicated to the 100th Anniversary of the birth of Universal Studio in Fort Lee, according to information posted on the Fort Lee Film Commission’s Facebook page.
