Earth Day Weekend Community Clean Up
Where/When: Saturday April 23 from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m.; Oakland Municipal Hall Parking Lot
Why Go: Clean up sites will be close to the meeting place, on public property only. There is no cost to participate but donations of $10 per adult, $5 per child are appreciated

Where/When: Saturday April 23 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.; Flat Rock Brook Nature Center. Englewood
Why Go: For adults and children in grade six and up; Join the Flat Rock Brook staff in a spring clean-up of the Flat Rock Brook. Each spring after the rains, lots of bottles, plastic bags and paper wash into the brook from upstream. Help clean the brook of this pollution. Bring waterproof boots or borrow theirs.
When/Where: Saturday April 23 anytime between 2 p.m. and 4 p.m.; Tenafly Nature Center
Why Go: Families will be given a set of clues to help solve nature riddles along the trails at the Nature Center. Each family will need to work as a team to complete the hunt and get their prize. Program is intended for adults and children four years and older. Inclement weather will cancel the program. Pre-registration is requested.
When/Where: Saturday April 23 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.; Overpeck County Park, Leonia
Why Go: This active conservation program gives you, your friends and family the opportunity to give back to your community and the environment by doing some “watershed housekeeping” along the Hackensack River and its tributaries. They provide the tools, gloves, trash bags and refreshments; all you have to bring is yourself and clothes you don’t mind getting dirty in.
When/Where: Friday April 29, Whole Foods Market, Ridgewood
Why Go: The poster contest is open to Bergen County elementary students from the first through eighth grades. Students should design a poster no larger than 11 inches by 17 inches, focusing on either water conservation or plants and planting. Artwork should be drawn or painted on a flat surface with pencil, crayon, marker, paint or pastel. To be eligible, all posters must be submitted along with a completed entry form to the Whole Foods Market in Ridgewood by closing on April 29. Entry forms can be obtained at www.rscape.com or at Whole Foods.
Starbucks Earth Day Celebration
When/Where: Friday April 22, any participating Starbucks location
Why Go: Bring in a travel cup and receive a free coffee or tea at participating stores.
