The National Weather Service says people should limit strenuous outdoor activities

Bergen County is under a Heat Advisory from noon to 8 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday, according to the National Weather Service. Such an advisory is issued when the combination of heat and humidity makes it feel at least 95 degrees for two consecutive days, or when it feels like 100 degrees or more for any period of time.

For the Fort Lee area, the National Weather service predicts a high of 97 degrees for Wednesday, with a higher heat index, and a high near 98 degrees Thursday, with a heat index of 101. Temperatures are expected to drop to 88 degrees Friday.

An Air Quality Alert is also in effect Wednesday until 10 p.m.

The state Office of Emergency Management is monitoring the situation.

"Children, older adults, people with disabilities and pets are most at risk during excessive temperature conditions. Air quality alerts cause additional concerns for individuals with respiratory issues," the agency said in a statement.
