Fort Lee BOE to Decide on $2M Ballot Question, Summer Events Wind Down

The Week Ahead: a look at just some of what's going on in Fort Lee this week.

A public hearing on Fort Lee Public School District Business Administrator and Board Secretary Cheryl Balletto’s employment contract will lead the Fort Lee Board of Education’s regular business meeting Monday.

If the school board approves the contract, which has already been reviewed and approved by the Executive County Superintendent of Schools, Balletto will remain in the position through June 2013 and earn an annual base salary of $145,706.

The BOE will also vote on whether to put a question on the November ballot regarding the “purchase or lease-purchase” for no more than $2 million of property “for school use” using capital reserves.

If the school board approves the resolution, the ballot question on Nov. 6 would read as follows:

Shall the Fort Lee Board of Education by authorized to expend an amount not to exceed two million dollars ($2,000,000.00) form the Board’s Capital Reserve Account for the acquisition of or lease-purchase of property for school use?

With the end of summer approaching, time is running out for those who haven’t yet attended any of Fort Lee’s at the .

This week, the community center will wrap up its Wednesday evening concert series with a performance by The Duprees at 7:30 p.m.

Organizers describe the performance as follows:

[This is] the 50th anniversary of one of the all-time favorite golden oldies groups. Known all over the world for their romantic interpretation of some of the most beautiful love songs of the 60’s. Songs include: “ You Belong to Me”, “Have You Heard” and “Why Don’t You Believe Me.”

And on Saturday, the Fort Lee Film Commission presents its penultimate offering of the summer with “swing blues” music by Swingadelic at 7 p.m. followed by a screening of the critically acclaimed Apollo 13 (1995) starring Tom Hanks, Bill Paxton and Kevin Bacon and directed by Ron Howard.
