Five Things This Week: BOE, Government Meetings, Library Events, Exam Week

A look at five things you should know about and/or might not want to miss this week

Here is a look at five things you should know about and/or might not want to miss this week:

Number one:

The Fort Lee Board of Education meets for a regular business meeting Monday at 8 p.m. in the Fort Lee School No. 1 library.

School No. 1 is located at 250 Hoym St., and the agenda for Monday’s meeting can be downloaded on the school district’s website.

Number two

The United Homeowners Association of Fort Lee presents “Fort Lee Mayor Mark Sokolich on Fort Lee News” Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. at the Fort Lee Senior Center on Main St.

All are welcome. Refreshments will be served, and the Homeowners Association will be collecting nonperishable food and paper goods for the Food Bank at the gathering.


Number three:           

The has three events this week worth checking out starting on Thursday, when the 1931 film, Platinum Blonde, starring Jean Harlow, Loretta Young, Robert Williams and Halliwell Hobbes, will be screened at 2 p.m. in the library’s meeting room.

On Saturday at 2 p.m. the library invites Fort Lee residents to celebrate the summer solstice with an afternoon of grand opera. The Allegro Singers, accompanied by Inna Leytush on piano, will greet the summer season with arias and duets from famous operas by Verdi, Puccini, and Tchaikovsky.

And the work of watercolorist Dorrie Rifkin is on display in the Lower Level Atrium Gallery throughout the month.

Number four:

The next Fort Lee Mayor and Council executive session is scheduled for Thursday at 7 p.m.—although it most likely won’t re-open to the public until 8 p.m.—in Borough Hall’s second floor conference room. Check the borough’s website closer meeting day for a downloadable agenda. The agenda will also be available in hard copy at Borough Hall Wednesday afternoon.

Other government meetings this week include a Board of Health meeting Tuesday at 7 p.m. at the Health Department and a Fort Lee Zoning Board meeting Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. in Borough Hall’s council chambers. The zoning board’s agenda should also be available for download on the borough’s website and at Borough Hall soon.

Also note that the website was recently with a slew of summer activities, some of which are coming up soon, including Shakespeare in the Park, Movies and Music Under the Stars, the Fort Lee Farmers Market and the semi-annual Fort Lee Historic Jitney Tour.

Number five

And finally, it’s final exam week all week at Fort Lee High School in advance of next week’s last day of school and graduation.
