Commuting News: NJ Transit Alerts Available on Twitter

George Washington Bridge lower level closures

NJ Transit customers looking for service information can now receive it, 140 characters at a time.

NJ Transit now offers My Transit alerts onTwitter, allowing customers to receive rail, bus and light rail service updates.

“The technology behind NJ TRANSIT’s My Transit alert system enables us to transmit alerts and advisories across a multitude of communication channels simultaneously—including through the website, mobile devices, digital screens, interactive voice response systems and RSS feeds,” said NJ Transit Executive Director James Weinstein  “By integrating this system with Twitter, we are providing our customers with yet another platform for easy access to up-to-the-minute service information.”

NJ Transit launched 13 My Transit alert accounts on Twitter Wednesday. The feeds are generated whenever a My Transit alert or advisory is sent out.

Rail Alerts

Inbound trains at the Ridgewood NJ Transit station will arrive on the center track Monday to Friday from 9:15 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Traffic Alerts

  • Expect delays around 8 p.m. Wednesday to Sunday as Elton John performs at Madison Square Garden.
  • The eastbound lower level of the George Washington Bridge will be closed Monday to Friday from 11 p.m. each night to 5 a.m. the following morning for Trans Manhattan Expressway repairs. The westbound lower level will be closed Monday to Thursday from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. the following morning for work on the main span upper level deck of the bridge.
  • One tube of the Lincoln Tunnel, plus two additional lanes in each direction, will be closed Tuesday to Thursday from 11 p.m. each night to 5 a.m. the following morning, leaving one lane available in each direction, for maintenance.
  • One lane in each direction of the Holland Tunnel will be closed Monday to Thursday from 11 p.m. each night to 5:30 a.m. the following morning for maintenance.
