BOE Sides With Super in Contract Debate, Graduation Top Local News

Students turned up in full force again Monday to urge the school board to overturn the interim superintendent’s decision not renew two of their teachers’ contracts. But the board took no action, putting an end to more than a month of lobbying efforts.

Tuesday was graduation day for the Fort Lee High School class of 2012, the members of which received their diplomas at a ceremony at the Lewis F. Cole Middle School athletic field.

Parents, relatives and friends filed into the Fort Lee Community Center Wednesday to commemorate the successes and milestones of the Class of 2012.

The incident, in which a man brandished a handgun and demanded cash from the register after asking for a pack of cigarettes, occurred just after 1:30 a.m. Monday at an Exxon station on Route 4, police say.

After years of devoted service to the community and its children, Jack Hausler recently announced to league coaches that he will step down as head of the Fort Lee Junior Basketball League, and after serious consideration on the part of league officials, Curtis Adams, a Fort Lee Coach for the past two years and former college basketball player, volunteered to take over as league director.
