BOE Cracks Down on Non-Residents, Re-Hires Principal in Top Local News

The Fort Lee Board of Education passed five separate resolutions Monday to notify the parents of five students determined to be in violation of the district’s residency requirements that they are ineligible to attend Fort Lee schools and that the district intends to take legal action to recover back tuition. Students at Fort Lee School No. 1 will be welcomed by a familiar face when they return to their classrooms in the fall: that of their principal for the past year—at least for another year. The Fort Lee Board of Education Monday approved a walk-in resolution to appoint Kristine Cecere principal of the elementary school for the 2011-2012 school year. (Full Story)

For the past few weeks, visitors entering Fort Lee’s from the Fletcher Ave. side have been greeted by unsightly construction in the otherwise pristine and tranquil environment. That’s because the Department of Public Works has been erecting what will become Fort Lee’s own 9/11 memorial honoring the borough’s emergency services agencies and commemorating the 10th anniversary of the tragic events of Sept. 11, 2001. The monument is being built from a girder and other pieces of the World Trade Center donated to the borough by the Port Authority for that specific purpose. (Full Story)

The Fort Lee Film Commission and the Fort Lee Coalition for the Arts is joining forces with the historical society for an “oral histories” project that organizers hope will result in a valuable resource for present and future generations of Fort Lee residents to learn more about the history of their town.
