New Local Business Finds Time to Give, Supports Charities in Challenging Economic Times

Fort Lee based company JensenMartin finds a way to give in a time when it's hard for new businesses simply to take.

In these times, it’s an unfortunate necessity to wear many different “hats.” People need to focus on their personal life, their professional life and their own personal growth all at once. With outside influences battering us from every angle, sometimes it’s hard to take a step back, out of the battle zone, and reflect on what’s important. People are driven to take what they can in a time when so little is given; and charity is forgotten.

Martin Di Battista of JensenMartin™ is beating that statistic with a new business that has amazingly found a way to give back in a time of economic hardship for many. His online clothing company only began in April last year, but has been going strong since.

Di Battista says that donating to charities through his company was never a question; that from day one it was integrated into their agenda.

“We built into our [business] program a way to fundraise for charity at events,” he said.

The outerwear company – which plans on adding more variety to its inventory shortly – donates to charities by setting up stands at fundraising events and donating proceeds.

“From the get-go, we wanted to give back,” Di Battista said.

Despite the economy being especially rough on new business owners, Di Battista donates a whopping 5% of all sales made at these events to the charity being represented. The real kicker? He gives an additional 5% off for the consumer. That’s 10% of his profit being given away.

JensenMartin™ has devoted its time and efforts to organizations such as the Red Light Children, Autism Speaks, the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children, and the charity Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA). Children are “everything,” Di Battista says. Being a family man himself, father of three, it’s easy to see where the passion comes from.

The company provides a solid lesson for businesses and individuals alike. Jensen Di Battisa, Martin’s younger brother and business partner, feels very lucky to be part of the projects.

“I always thought when I was younger it would be cool to give to charity if I had a company and the money. Now that we’re actually doing it, it’s nice. It’s fulfilling,” he said.

The company’s efforts have been met with encouraging reviews.

“In the short time that we’ve been out, our response has been really positive. No doors have been slammed in our face,” Martin Di Battista said.
