Verismo Opera Reschedules Chorus Auditions

Auditions for the Fort Lee-based company will be held until Feb. 5 in Englewood.

The New Jersey Association of Verismo Opera has rescheduled the last date to audition for the Verismo Opera Chorus to Feb. 5. Due to expected inclement weather conditions, prior auditions were cancelled.

Auditions for the chorus will begin at 6:30 p.m. and be held at 44 Armory St. in Englewood. An audition appointment is required and must be made in advance.

Lucine Amara, Artistic Director of the New Jersey Association of Verismo Opera, invites vocalists who like to sing and want to perform on the stage in a professional production to audition for the Verismo Opera Chorus. Professional, amateur, and retired professional vocalists may apply.

During the company’s 25th anniversary season, Vive la France, choristers will perform in the company’s spring production of Giuseppe Verdi’s La Traviata on Sunday, April 6, and La Boheme on Sunday, Oct. 19 and 26. Both operas will be presented at 3 p.m. at the Bergen Performing Arts Center in Englewood.

Under Chorus Director Mara Waldman, vocalists will sing in Italian and explore grand opera through active performances. The operas will be fully staged and performed in costume accompanied by an orchestra under internationally renowned Principal Conductor/Music Director Anthony Morss.
