The Cleopatra Club Wins Battle of the Bands

Astute readers will recognize the band's vocalist as the lead singer from last year's battle of the bands champ.

Young New Jersey rockers The Cleopatra Club took home the grand prize at this year’s Fort Lee Film Commission Battle of the Bands.

The Garfield/North Haledon four piece cover band eked out a razor thin victory over another young group, Radio Activity, on Friday.

The Cleopatra Club won a $500 prize and an invitation to perform at next year’s Fort Lee Arts and Music Festival, according to BergenNow.com

The band consists of vocalist Jessica Kenny, guitarist Matt Morgantini, drummer Stephen Saulpaugh and bassist Shane Furst.

Jessica, Stephen and Shane attend Paramus Catholic High School, and Matt goes to Northern Highlands Regional High School in Allendale, according to the website.

While this is the first win for The Cleopatra Club, it’s Kenny’s second victory. Last year Doomsday Diaries, a band Jessica also fronts, won the battle of the bands.

"The Fort Lee Film Commission's Battle of the Bands gets bigger and better each year", Fort Lee Film Commission Executive Director Tom Meyers told BergenNow.com.

Radio Activity lost the competition by a single judge’s point — a margin so close that officials decided to grant the Dumont/New Milford/Rochelle Park rockers an invite to the Fort Lee Arts and Music Festival.
