‘Queen of Dixieland,’ Renowned Pianist to Perform at Fort Lee Library

Music lovers are in for a treat with these two afternoon weekend performances—the first, this Saturday.

With “Fat Tuesday” coming up next week on Feb. 21, the Fort Lee Public Library is getting in the Mardis Gras groove a little early, with a 2 p.m. performance Saturday (Feb. 18) of New Orleans-style Dixieland and blues by Linda Ipanema.

Ipanema, who’s also known as the "Queen of Dixieland," is “considered one of the foremost singers of Dixieland jazz,” according to organizers. In addition to performing on Broadway, Ipanema has appeared in such films as A Bronx Tale, The Pope Of Greenwich Village and Once Upon a Time in America, as well as TV shows like Law & Order.

Looking forward to next weekend, classical pianist Igor Lovchinsky will perform at the library at 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 26.

“With a repertoire ranging from the Renaissance to the 21st century, Mr. Lovchinsky is a multi-faceted performer whose innovative programs – often combining the standard repertoire with jazz and popular music – reflect his diverse musical interests,” organizers said. “Typically, Lovchinsky speaks to the audience at his recitals, engaging both the seasoned and lay listeners.”

Born in Kazan, Russia in 1984, Lovchinsky has performed at The Kennedy Center, Carnegie Hall’s Weill Recital Auditorium, The Bushnell Center, the Eastman Theater and the Ohio Theater. Internationally, he has presented recitals at the National Philharmonic Hall in Warsaw, the American Embassy in Beijing and the Rosza Centre in Calgary, according to organizers.
