Thomas Paine Statue Fundraiser

Fort Lee Common Sense Society to Honor Fort Lee Mayor Mark Sokolich at November 5th Thomas Paine Statue Fundraiser

The Fort Lee Common Sense Society President, Fort Lee VFW Commander James Viola, announces that Fort Lee Mayor Mark Sokolich will be presented with the first annual Thomas Paine Winter Soldier Award at the November 5th Thomas Paine Statue Fundraiser at the Doubletree Hotel in Fort Lee. All proceeds from this event will go towards the completion of the funding of a statue of Revolutionary War patriot Thomas Paine to be placed in Fort Lee's Monument Park.  Paine was a member of General Washington's Army in Fort Le in the fall of 1776 and here he witnessed the fall of Fort Washington from the Fort Lee Palisades.  Paine began to write his American Crisis in Fort Lee.  The statue will sit feet away from where Paine and his fellow American soldiers encamped in 1776.

Tickets to the November 5th event are $150 and are tax deductible - they can be made out to"  Thomas Paine Statue Fund / VFW Account."
