Celebrate the 100th Anniversary of the Palisades Amusement Park Pool

Fort Lee Historical Society holding centennial bash of the famed Palisades Amusement Park saltwater pool at the Fort Lee Museum on Saturday, June 8.

The 100th anniversary of the opening of Palisades Amusement Park's salt water pool – the largest in the world at the time – is coming to Fort Lee on June 8 at the Fort Lee Museum on Palisade Avenue.

To celebrate the big date, a picnic will be thrown on the grounds of the museum and Monument Park, featuring hot dogs, lemonade, soda, and vinegar fries.

Alan Brennert, the author of the new St. Martin's Press book "Palisades Park", will be on hand to sign copies.

In addition to the picnic, there will be a screening of documentary film "Palisades Amusement Park: A Century of Fond Memories" at sunset. Filmmaker Vince Gargiulo will be introducing the film.

As some of you may fondly – or not – remember, the Palisades Amusement Park was among the most visited theme parks in the world. Ultimately, woeful traffic issues and the death of co-owner Jack Rosenthal led the park closing in 1971. High rise apartment buildings replaced the rides.

The historical event runs from 4 to 7 p.m. on Saturday. The cost for adults is $10 while kids and seniors get in for $5. All proceeds go to the Fort Lee Historical Society.
