Tour de Fort Lee 50/50 Winner Receives $2,500, Donates Half For Scholarships

Education Foundation will use the donation for scholarships in memory of the late wife of Charles Knoll

The Fort Lee Education Foundation (FLEF) presented the winner of its Tour de Fort Lee 50/50 raffle with a check for $2,500 at the Judge Moore House in Fort Lee Wednesday evening, and Charles Knoll is giving half of it back for scholarships in his late wife’s name.

Knoll, a 1953 graduate of Fort Lee High School and current resident of Mahwah, demonstrated a little school spirit for his alma mater, along with a lot of generosity, when he decided that he would give half of his winnings back to the FLEF, which will use the money for three scholarships in memory of Alice Knoll, herself a 1956 graduate of Fort Lee High School.

Fort Lee Education Foundation president Tony Clores was impressed by Knoll’s gesture and pleased to now be able to offer the Alice Knoll Memorial Scholarship.

“It was really a nice gesture on his part, and he’s really a nice gentleman,” Clores said. “It was the first time I met him. We’re going to add to it and make them $500 scholarships each. We’re going to do three for three years for $500 each in Alice’s name plus the two that we give out.”

Clores also noted that Knoll left his mark on the school long before his generous donation Wednesday.

“He was a basketball player during those years, and he was a pretty good player from what I understand,” Clores said.
