This week's featured pets at the county animal shelter in Teterboro

This week at the Bergen County Animal Shelter there are many pets who are looking for a great home to call their own but these are the featured pets of the week.

Cats:

The shelter is looking for your help this week, as they are searching for volunteers willing to take kittens into their homes and raise them until they are ready for adoption. Here's their message:

We need your help!  Kitten season is just beginning  Won’t you help us take care of these precious tiny bottle babies?  Most of these kittens are too young to stay in the shelter environment. They need a temporary, loving, safe and quiet home in which to grow until they are ready for adoption.  Volunteers would be responsible for feeding, cleaning, socializing and possibly medicating animals in their own homes. When the kitten is old or healthy enough, it will be returned to the shelter for adoption. All volunteers must be 18 years old. The Bergen County Animal Shelter will provide all supplies.  No experience needed. If you are interested, please visit the shelter and ask to speak to Bernadette, or you may call and leave a message at 201 229-4611. This is just the beginning of a long kitten season.  We will need continued help through the summer into the fall.  If you are not available now, please consider helping these kittens when you have the time.  It is very gratifying to help these babies begin their lives.

The shelter describes Mary Jane as:

Wild Mary Jane was found wandering the streets and was brought in as a stray. She is one true beagle! The world is her playground and will smell just about anything and everything. Adopters will have to be able to understand this breed and all their goofy little quirks. Mary Jane is a pretty intense puppy and will need a lot of basic obedience training as well as loose leash training. On leash, she is a doggie ricochet and will be in and out of your legs. For a 8-12 month old, she shows no sign of guarding but it is typical for this breed to "inhale" their food as quickly as possible. We recommend adopters to start a feeding routine so she will end up eating at a slower pace as an adult. Although she wasn't that interested in her food bowl, she was pretty mouthy with treats.

The shelter describes Mr. Fluffles as:

Mr. Fluffles came to us because his owners did not have enough time for him, so we are hoping his future family is able to make up for lost time. This 10 year old Shih Tzu mix would make a wonderful companion for first time dog owners. Fluffles would be satisfied with nice walks with his owners or simply hanging around, relaxing with the family. With such a calm, quiet personality, we would love to see him in a more tranquil household. Because he is a more mellow Shih Tzu, socialization would be good for him but will have to be done gradually. Talk about playing hard to get. Although he may not ask for attention he sure does love receiving it. Once he gets to know someone, he will gladly come over and say hi. We believe Fluffles would do well with a family who understands his needs and will be able to give him lots and lots of TLC.
