Fort Lee Weekend Events: ‘Living History,’ Piano Concert, Soccer

A quick look at some events going on in the borough this weekend, including your last chance to visit the Fort Lee Farmers Market

Retreat to Victory March (Saturday; 11:45 a.m.)

Revolutionary War re-enactors will march from to Saturday, following the same path Gen. George Washington and his troops followed in November 1776.

The march starts at 11:45 a.m. at the area of the Palisade Interstate Park at the Hudson Terrace exit.

Thomas Paine "Punch and Pie Night" Fundraiser (Saturday; 7 p.m.)

The Fort Lee Common Sense Society is holding its annual Punch and Pie fundraiser to raise money for the statue of Revolutionary War-era patriot Thomas Paine to be erected in Fort Lee's .

The event, complete with a living history program, hot punch and pies and colonial music, is Saturday at 7 p.m. at the Kearny House at the Alpine Boat Basin (Exit 2 off the Palisades Interstate Parkway).

Tickets are $20, and seating is limited to 25. All proceeds go to the funding of the statue.

Fort Lee Public Library’s Holiday Piano Concert (Saturday; 2 p.m.)

The announced a program change this week, and will present an “upbeat holiday piano concert” at 2 p.m. Saturday.

The concert features classical waltzes from “the world's most beloved
operas, ballets and operettas,” according to organizers.

Pianist Inna Leytush, a teacher and music director, will showcase the following “festive” selections, among others:
Viennese Waltz (Strauss),
Waltz Of The Flowers (from The Nutcracker, Tchaikovsky),
Medley From The Merry Widow (Lehar)

Admission is free, all ages are welcome and “dancing in the aisles” will be permitted, organizers say.

Fort Lee Soccer League Playoffs and Online Registration (Saturday and Sunday; various times)

There is a full slate of games scheduled Saturday and Sunday at the soccer fields and Van Fleet Park, as the Fort Lee Soccer League’s fall league playoffs conclude this weekend. Click here for a complete schedule of the weekend’s games.

The league is also holding ongoing, online registration for its Winter Indoor Soccer League. Registration is for the 2012 in-town, indoor winter league, with games starting Jan. 7. Online registration is for returning soccer players and can be found on Fort Lee Soccer League’s website on the right side of the homepage.

Online sign-ups run though Dec. 9.

The league will also be holding walk-in registrations on Nov. 29 from 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. at the .

Last Sunday of Fort Lee Farmers Market (Sunday; 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.)

The Fort Lee Farmers Market—originally scheduled to run through October—was extended through Sunday, enabling shoppers to buy fresh goods right up to the last weekend before Thanksgiving.

If you haven’t yet checked out the farmers market, this is you last chance for this year. The market is located in the plaza area outside the at 1355 Inwood Terrace. It will be open Sunday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.
