Troop 5209 learns about shelter life with BC Protect & Rescue

Leonia- Brownie/Girl Scout Troop 5209 met at the Leonia Library for their annual meeting and were interested in finding ways to help homeless animals.  They decided to invite BC Protect & Rescue (BC P&R) to learn about animal rescue, animal shelter life and what volunteers do everyday. In return the troop collected many needed items for homeless animals in BC Protect & Rescue’s care.  Humane Enforcement Agent and founder of BC P&R, Vincent Ascolese, donated his time to lecture about Humane Education.

The girls enjoyed the lecture and had many questions for Officer Ascolese.  As a past teacher, and boy scout himself, Officer Ascolese, was able to connect to the girls and made it exciting for them to want to help further. The girls will be planning a visit to the shelter at a later time to see all the animals at the shelter and view what volunteers do.

Currently, the cost to run this small edifice is $10,000 per month. BC P&R works solely on donations and relies on residents, local businesses and corporations for their support in order to continue its mission of saving lives.
