Eating Right In 2014

During the holidays you were jolly… you ate, drank and were merry …  Now you’re faced with the repercussions of your choices.

Did all that OVERINDULGENCE leave you feeling UNDERNOURISHED? Have you started your strict regime of calorie deprivation and rigorous exercise??

Well, I have a better idea for you.  Let’s break the binge and restrict, stuff and starve cycles. Instead of continuing to punish your body, be resolved to NOURISH IT instead.  Follow my 5 simple steps to DETOX and create a VIBRANT, HEALTHY LIFE.

Find out what's happening in Fort Leewith free, real-time updates from Patch.

5 Simple Steps to get NOURISHED:

1.       HYDRATE.  Start each morning by drinking a cup of hot water with fresh lemon juice.  This ancient ayervedic practice will help re-hydrate, alkalize, liver cleanse, detoxify and get your digestive system moving in the right direction.  These processes are all essential to good health, and will result in improved energy, mental clarity, and radiant skin.

2.       GO GREEN.  Eat more organic dark-green leafy vegetables such as kale, spinach and swiss chard.  Nutrient dense, filled with fiber, phyto-nutrients, vitamins (A, B’s, C, E, and K) and minerals (iron, folate, potassium, calcium and magnesium), these alkalizing plants are anti-inflammatory and aid in disease prevention. They are true SUPER FOODS that will boost your energy substantially.

3.       GET REAL.  Eat primarily REAL WHOLE FOODS and compose balanced meals.  LEAN PROTEINS, HIGH FIBER CARBOHYDRATES (fruits, vegetables, whole grains and legumes) and HEART HEALTHY FATS should be the components of all of your meals and snacks.  Avoid over-processed and artificial foods.  Consider a ratio of 80/20 when choosing the foods you put onto your plate – 80% being the most healthful choices you can make at any given meal or snack.  The “cleaner” you begin to eat, the more you will find that you naturally gravitate towards those healthy foods in the future.

4.       STOP SUGAR. (You’re already sweet enough).  I’m not simply referring to refined carbohydrates like cookies and chocolates etc.  I mean the hidden sugars in just about everything.  Learn to READ LABELS/nutritional facts.  Believe it or not, some brands of Plain Greek Yogurt have as much as 8 grams (that’s 2 teaspoons) of sugar!  If you’re eating a yogurt a day, that adds up and they don’t even taste sweet!  So that’s definitely one place where you can look to eliminate sugar, and maybe even seek out another brand.

5.       SLOW DOWN.  Stress causes weight gain, while RELAXATION allows weight loss.  Relax at mealtime.  Be mindful.  Don’t multi task while eating, but instead focus on the food that you have chosen to nourish you.  Chew your food thoroughly, and savor every bite.

NO need to wait until January 1st… your next meal is the opportunity to improve your health and well-being!

Here’s to a HAPPY and HEALTHY NEW YOU!
