Amazon Grows

Amazon is a firm that is known by virtually everyone, whether or not you have invested in the company or not. This firm has expanded from its beginnings as an online bookstore to a firm that sells every good imaginable to almost every location imaginable. It is expanding into publication (with its own publishing houses), as well as rolling out iterations of the Kindle reader that compete directly with tablets produced by Samsung and Apple. In addition to expanding into publications and content production (as well distribution), the firm has continued to grow in other areas as well.

Despite the tongue-in-cheek reference to Amazon drones delivering goods to people’s homes on a daily basis, the possibility of Amazon expanding into more lucrative (as well as diverse!) areas is becoming more and more apparent. One deal, announced today, is yet another sign of Amazon's diversification as well as the ability that the firm has to push down prices overall.
In a deal with HBO, Amazon Prime locked up content deals for some of HBO's older series, which might not seem like a huge deal, but let's look deeper into the story. By locking up this content, Amazon continues to grow its content ecosystem and demand for its Prime services, and to put pressure on competitors (which include Netflix) to either cut prices or to continue innovating.
