The 35,000-square-foot Jack Alter Fort Lee Community Center is more than just a venue for youth and adult sports. You will find organized basketball, soccer, cheerleading, volleyball, baseball, football and softball there, but seasonal programs such as aerobics, dance, yoga and pilates, and special events like concerts, a speakers' bureau, cabaret nights, "Dancing Under the Stars" and "Movies and Music Under the Stars" make the center a multi-purpose community resource. Additional highlights include a seasonal English conversation program, line dancing, a toddler gym and a farmers' market, which runs through November. Many of these programs are free to Fort Lee residents. The impressive structure is surrounded by a plaza with a large fountain on one side and a vast lawn with benches on the other. The community center is located where Center Ave., Anderson Ave. and Inwood Terrace converge near the Fort Lee Police station. A Fort Lee Community Center photo ID card is required to use any of the facilities or participate in most of the programs. Fort Lee residency is also required.
