DESCRIPTION:Macculloch Hall Presents: "Gone for a Soldier:" Jerseymen in
the Civil War&nbsp\;\nMacculloch Hall Historical Museum collaborates wit
h the New Jersey Civil War Sesquicentennial Committee in mounting a majo
r exhibit: &ldquo\;Gone for a Soldier:&rdquo\; Jerseymen in the Civil Wa
 r\," to run from November 6\, 2011 to July 1\, 2012.\nThe exhibit will p
rovide a unique perspective on the Civil War\, focusing on New Jersey so
ldiers and their stories. Working in partnership\, the two organizations
are using their expertise and connections to private and institutional
collections to bring together an unprecedented amount of memorabilia chr
onicling the experience of New Jersey and her soldiers in the Civil War.
Among the objects displayed will be rare Civil War uniforms\, weapons\,
  equipment\, posters\, photographs\, drums\, and personal items loaned f
rom private collectors\, historical societies\, and museums in the Mid-A
tlantic region and beyond. &ldquo\;Many of these items have never been o
n public display and certainly never as a comprehensive exhibit of this
scale. We expect this will be the largest grouping of New Jersey Civil W
ar material ever brought together\,&rdquo\; said Paul Loane\, a member o
f the Sesquicentennial Committee.\nMacculloch Hall Historical Museum pro
vides an excellent backdrop to this exclusive showcase of New Jersey Civ

Miller\, was commissioned in 1863 as a captain in the First Regiment of
Arkansas Volunteers of African Descent.&nbsp\; His wartime experience i
s told through his letters home\, now held in the museum&rsquo\;s archiv
es.\nThe exhibit will open to the general public on Sunday\, November 6\
, 2011.&nbsp\; An exclusive evening preview of the exhibit and an opport
unity to meet the experts behind it takes place November 5. Tickets for
the preview will be available\, at www.maccullochhall.org\, September 19

.&nbsp\; An exhibition catalogue will be available. Look for program ann
ouncements and updates on the museum&rsquo\;s website and Facebook page.
