Future Friends

Horatio, a 2-year old Retriever mix, came to the shelter as a stray and has definitely made improvements since his stay. Although he is fearful during the first introduction, he does show signs of bonding. Adopters will have to be patient with this sweetheart and give him time to adjust to his new home. Walks and hand feeding are excellent ways to help in the bonding process. Horatio will turn around before you know it and you will not regret the day you took him home. Playing fetch with him will surely give you some brownie points for sure and there is no better way to get into his heart than to play a few games of ball.

Lydia is a sweet little 6-month old female domestic, medium hair, black and white cat. She happens to be extra special and unique because she is a polydactyl cat with six toes on her front paws. Also she has a brother Charlie who she loves to cuddle with and sleep with. The two were in a foster home together for the past three months and the shelters hopes to find a home that will take both of them since they are so close. The shelter is offering “adopt one kitten, get the second at no charge.” Lydia has gorgeous long fur and looks like a little fluff ball. She can be very shy and timid and may need a bit of time to warm up but once she does she will settle in your lap and purr herself to sleep. She is very playful too and loves to chase balls and cat toys. She gets along well with other cats too.
Lydia is up to date with shots and will be spayed & microchipped before leaving our shelter.

Sniper, a Central Asian Sheperd, came in to the shelter with another dog because his owners could not take care of him. This 1-year old 120 pound dog will surely need an experienced breed owner so he can be given the attention and exercise he needs. This handsome fellow needs a strong and firm leader. Lots of physical and mental stimulation is needed. His breed, Central Asian Shepherds are primarily used to guard livestock but they also make great companions.

Simba, a Boxer/Mastiff Mix, was surrendered to the shelter because his owners were severely allergic. He was quite timid and very fearful, but the more time he spent with people at the shelter, the more confident he became. The former family let the shelter know that Simba can be wary of strangers and does not trust easily therefore the family that adopts him should keep in mind to be cautious when Simba begins to interact with different people. It is advised that Simba acclimate on his own terms and to not force socialization.

Bumper is a one-year old rowdy puppy who is sure to make a great companion for a very active and experienced family. Bumper came to the shelter when his owners were moving and couldn't take him along. Nothing seems to rain on this happy pups parade, not even a nice long bath. Because he is so cheerful, he tends to take all that energy and release it on people he wants to meet. Bumper can be a bit inappropriate when it comes to introducing himself to strangers. Although it is not aggressive at all, he may be too rough with young children. The shelter seeks owners who are knowledgeable of his breed and can handle his exuberant energy level. Doggie obedience classes are recommend along with long walks, hikes, runs and fetches in the yard which are great ways to knock him out by nightfall.

Minnie is a medium size, female domestic short hair gray cat who came to the shelter with another cat when her owner sadly, decided she no longer wanted them any longer. Minnie is a little shy at first but does warm up when she is given one on one attention and then loves to be pet and held. This sweet, petite girl has a beautiful face and gorgeous markings. She is about 4 years old, up to date with shots and has tested negative for Feline Aids and Feline Leukemia. She will get a microchip before leaving our shelter.

Princess is a sweet seven-year old Poodle/Chow Chow Mix who can be on the shy side when her canine companion Muffy isn’t around. When her sister is around she is comes out of her shell however she does still enjoy the affection given to her by her human friends. The shelter says it is surprising how much her confidence improves when her sister is in the picture therefore the shelter is hoping to find adopters who are willing to take in both dogs. Not only would they make someone very happy but they would be eternally grateful for being given a second chance at life together.

Alfalfa is a medium size, adult, male lop eared rabbit available for adoption. He came into the shelter as a stray. Rabbits can make great pets the shelter says recommending the use of rabbits.org as a source for medical, behavioral and general information about raising rabbits.

Blizzard is a 6 to 7 month old Border Collie/Terrier Mix female who transforms into a humongous sweetheart when she learns to trust. The shelter says Blizzard definitely shows signs of bonding, but she just needs the time and opportunity to do so. Some confidence boosting and TLC will help her grow into a self-assured mature adult. Hand feeding is recommended and long walks to help with bonding. Physical and mental stimulation will be a necessity for Blizzard as well as doing things at a slower place so as to not overwhelm her as she can be a bit shy.

Nerf, a 3 to 4-year old male Maltese dog, came to the shelter as a stray and is one of the most lovable and cooperative dogs the shelter has currently. The shelter is taking applications so that everyone who is interested has an opportunity. The shelter says this will not be a first come first serve process, as adoption will not be guaranteed upon completion of application. Since Nerf seems to love the attention given by his human companions, the shelter strongly advice adopters to keep socializing him with different people and places so he doesn't lose this unique quality.

Lovebug is a five-year old domestic short hair, gray and white adult cat. Another victim of the economy, Lovebug came to shelter when her owners lost their home to foreclosure. She has lived with children, dogs and other cats and is now seeking her forever home. Her name says it all.

Pepper, is a medium sized young adult female Staffordshire terrier who will leave you grinning from ear to ear. The shelter says Pepper’s smile is contagious and her lovable personality will have one begging for more. She would make an active family very happy and would adore her new owners for giving her enough energy release throughout the day so she could sleep soundly at night. Some basic obedience and leash training would not be harmful to Pepper. Also she should be taught some traditional manners when it comes to playtime as she needs to learn how to share and return her toys without developing any guarding issues. Pepper is full of life and vigor, and she is looking for a household that will not only treat her as one of their own, but who will take her for all that she is.

Carson, a young male Boxer, of only about two to three years old acts relatively calm for a boy his age. The shelter hopes he will liven up more once he finds the proper family. He is exceptionally social and is quite appropriate when he meets people, the shelter says. He may jump here or there but can be easily trained out of that behavior. He is almost 70 pounds and plenty of exercise such as walks, runs, playtime and training will be good for him.
