On January 24, 2012, residents of Fort Lee will vote on a referendum. Please do not be deceived.
This is not a referendum on the Fort Lee School system. This is a referendum on “the Future of the Borough of Fort Lee” or more specifically, “Does Fort Lee have a future?!”
Let’s keep it simple. If the usual 11% of registered voters show up at the polls, the referendum could fail. We will then have failed our children, our schools and our community. But if ALL the parents of the children in our school system make the effort to go to the polls, to VOTE FOR THE REFERENDUM, then, and only then, will Fort Lee prove that it has a bright and promising future!
For the first time, the Mayor and Council are vociferously supporting the referendum; Home Owners Association members are supporting the referendum, members of the Korean-American Association are supporting the referendum; Fort Lee students are out canvassing citizens to vote for the referendum. But if citizens of Fort Lee stay home on a cold night, all will be lost! Remember one thing! Antis will always go to the polls, in any weather, because they don’t care about the future of their community; they don’t care about our children; they only care about themselves!
Please Vote on January 24th, and please vote YES!

I had a typo too ! I do fear, what do you think will happen to our taxes if we cannot control the tax increase? Emergent funding from the state? Ugh! Or the money will have to be diverted away from the children and into facilities. And we become less than the Cliffside system as far as facilities......MUCH LESS!

B.M. If you truly believe that this referendum is not a crisis, then you really live in the dark. Our schools are in deplorable condition and are unsafe for our children!
Suggestion: Instead of posting comments on an issue, why don't you try setting some positive goals for yourself for 2012, e.g. working for the referendum; raising money for our schools; coming out from behind your mask.

Ft Lee turned out better students in the 40s and 50s with No money. How much more money do you all need at the expense of the senior citizens on a fixed income who lived there all their lives. ?

Community responsibility does not end when one becomes a senior. Sixty to seventy years have passed since the 1940's and 50's. Buildings have aged with minimal repair and no replacement. Technological breakthroughs require new equipment, i.e. computers and science labs.
Yes, there are seniors living on fixed incomes. It is very unfortunate to put a burden on these individuals. But seniors are an important part of our community. It is the responsibility of our society to provide services and benefits to our seniors from free transportation to various medical programs, Medicare-Medicaid-PAAD (Pharmacy Assistance for the Aged and Disabled). There are real estate tax benefits available to those that qualify. There is the free Library for the Blind.
In return, part of the senior's responsibility, like every other citizen, is to provide a quality educational environment for our children, the future of our society. That is the way it has always been and the way it will always be.
